Computer Assisted Exercises

A Computer Assisted Exercise is a Synthetic Exercise where electronic means are used to simulate scenarios, processes and procedures of all kinds and levels of operations, in complex environments. Simulation is executed by experts who receive operational orders from the Training Audience; they interact with simulation models and feed back the Training Audience with the results of simulation. CAX is providing realistic training for the Training Audience and control, evaluation and administration of operations for the Exercise Control Group and Operational Planners.

During the phases of a CAX, there are several issues that have to be considered, such us the primary and secondary Training Audience, the CAX training and operational objectives, the level and type of training, the hardware and software capabilities, the level of realism in simulation and many more.

That’s why a CAX has to be modified and published in a methodological way, in order to achieve targets and objectives. As CAX provide a cost effective training solution, most of times, the methodology used is focused on a basis of complex procedures for reducing the personnel’s involvement during the preparation and execution phases and maximize the software usage.

CAX feedback – products are usually connected to training and operational procedures, providing useful outcomes for decision makers, planners, operational staffs and head Quarters, based on the results of simulation as they are analyzed and translated by experts. There is a process that transforms that outcomes, through an After Action Review procedure to  Lessons Learned and Lessons Identified. CAX products can be also useful in operational planning evaluation or even more a supportive tool for evaluating HQ’s staffs capabilities and operational awareness.

There must be no uncertainty or doubt for decision makers, planners and operational staffs to use the products of a CAX immediately for plans and actions in real life scenario(s).
